SIGHT Green Burial

What is Green Burial?

Green burial is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional burial methods, prioritizing environmental sustainability. In a green burial, the body is laid to rest in a simple, biodegradable casket or shroud, without the use of embalming chemicals or concrete vaults. This practice allows the body to naturally decompose, returning to the earth and enriching the surrounding soil. Green burial sites are often located in natural settings, such as meadows, forests, or conservation areas, allowing loved ones to memorialize their departed in a peaceful, serene environment.

Why is Green Burial Important?

Environmental Impact

Traditional burial practices contribute to significant environmental concerns. Embalming fluids, which often contain toxic chemicals, can seep into the ground, while metal caskets and concrete vaults create non-biodegradable waste. In contrast, green burial practices help reduce pollution, prevent toxic chemicals from contaminating the earth, and promote a healthier ecosystem. By opting for green burial, we can actively reduce our ecological footprint and encourage the regeneration of natural landscapes.

Personal Impact

Choosing green burial is not only about the environment—it’s also a deeply personal decision. It offers families and individuals an opportunity to leave a legacy of respect for nature and to align their final resting place with their values. This choice reflects a commitment to sustainability and harmony with the earth, providing a peaceful, natural resting place that allows future generations to connect with the land and its history.

The Challenge of Acquiring Land in the Eastern Sierra

Securing land for green burial sites in the Eastern Sierra region presents unique challenges. The area's rugged terrain, conservation regulations, and limited available properties make it difficult to find the ideal locations for this sustainable practice. Additionally, land acquisition costs and zoning laws complicate the creation of a dedicated space for green burials.

However, we believe that the need for eco-conscious, sustainable burial options in this region is undeniable. Our project is committed to overcoming these challenges, working with local communities, landowners, and authorities to secure environmentally responsible burial grounds that are in harmony with the stunning natural beauty of the Eastern Sierra. By partnering with those who care about preserving the land, we aim to create a peaceful and lasting tribute to life and nature.

The GROUND BREAKERS COUNCIL

The Ground Breakers Council is an innovative and impactful group focused on acquiring land in the Eastern Sierra for a green burial cemetery that will preserve the natural beauty of the land in perpetuity. Together, we will brainstorm, network, and develop solutions to create a meaningful, eco-friendly legacy.
